IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
What is
IPL

IPL is a non-ablative technique to treat fine lines, persistent red complexion, sun spots, hair removal and other skin blemishes. This technique can also be described as photorejuvenation.

The IPL hand piece delivers high intensity pulses of broadband light and it emits light pulses in different intensities which penetrate the skin at certain depths and for certain durations. When it touches the skin cells you want removed (like hair follicles, age spots, broken blood veins, stretch marks and so on), this light is turned into heat energy which is strong enough to damage or totally destroy these cells.

With hair removal, for example, the intense pulsed light finds the melanin (the pigment that determines your hair and skin color), locks onto it and heats it up until the follicle is permanently destroyed. The procedure is very precise – the risk of additional cell damage is practically zero. Your skin will look and feel smoother and softer. No more about shaving, waxing or plucking.

Silky smooth skin is what you deserve!

Is it right for me & what
happens during the treatment?

IPL serves two main purposes:

Skin Rejuvenation

IPL emits 5 different lights at the same time, these lights go into different layers of the skin therefore dealing with multiple problems at the same time as rejuvenating the skin.

As the skin rejuvenation is dealt with from the sub-surface skin layer upwards results (with the proper skin care) tend to be long term.

Hair Removal

When the IPL light hits the hair frolic when it is in the growth cycle it will kill off the hair frolic and that hair is removed. When the IPL light hits the hair frolic when it is not in the growth cycle then the hair will fall out after a few days, but it will grow back but finer and slower.

Hair Removal can be treated on Whole Face and body e.g. bikini line, underarms, whole legs etc.

What else do I
need to know?

What are IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation?

IPL Technology improves the appearance of photoaged skin, removes age spots (sun-induced freckles), most benign brown pigments, and redness caused by broken capillaries through a process called photorejuvenation for face and body.

IPL Skin Treatments using Photorejuvenation help restore a more youthful appearance without the patient downtime.
Is IPL photorejuvenation painful?

You will experience a slight sensation as the pulses of therapeutic light are passed over your skin. The sensation is very mild and easily tolerated.

Topical anaesthic creams are not required but are available for individuals who wish to numb the skin.

What will my skin look like after the procedure?

Your skin may look slightly flushed temporarily. This mild “glow” will usually not be noticed by other individuals. If you wish, you may apply powder or make-up right away.

Why are five treatments required?

It has been demonstrated that the majority of people will achieve most of their improvement after five treatments are performed.

Improvement is gradual and becomes evident after several treatments have been completed.

Therefore single treatments are not scheduled prior to the completion of the first series of five procedures.

How long do the result last?

The results achieved from the treatment series can be expected to last for possibly several years or longer.

However, with the passage of time and with environmental exposure, skin ages as well as we do. IPL will provide benefits and significantly reverse many of the visible signs of sun-damaged skin. The improvement that has been achieved following a first series of five treatments can be maintained by occasional single maintenance treatments.

Treatment while my skin is tanned?

No. It is preferable to treat skin that is not tanned, although a slight “chronic” tan may be acceptable. We will assess your skin at the time of your consultation.

What areas can benefit from IPL?

Areas of skin which will benefit the most are generally sun exposed areas. The commonest areas treated are the face, the neck, the chest and the backs of the hands.
